*** NOTE: Volunteers and students can choose one or a combination of the above areas to work. All interns may be asked to assist in areas of need as they arise.

What to expect

Working at Thrift for Good will provide you with an experience in an entrepreneur led new organization which is almost 100% run by volunteers. Your awareness of community and understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility will be grown. You will work with like-minded people who care about society and the environment. As an organization we have a very flat structure and encourage volunteers and interns to take the lead on projects but also provided suitable guidance and support.

Upon successful completion of your internship, interns will be provided with a certificate of completion and letter of reference.

 

Working Hours

The shop is open from 10am-10pm 7 days a week. All the roles have flexible working hours, some may have partial set hour requirements. Certain roles may also allow for work from home capabilities.

Payment

We donate 100% of our profits to charity, thus we must run operations on a very tight budget. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to offer any paid internship positions.

TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS:

1. Online Store – Internship

Job Overview:

The Online intern will ensure the that our online store is well represented online and full of exciting, fashionable pieces.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Photograph products for online use
  • Select and price clothing for the online shop
  • Model online shop clothing (if willing)
  • Write creative clothing descriptions following TFG guidelines
  • Upload excel sheet of product descriptions to the website through Shopify
  • Pack and arrange our online orders
  • Match products online descriptions to photos
  • Verify products 100% quality for online products

Qualifications:

  • Basic Photography and editing skills
  • Access to cell phone with high quality camera
  • Ability to choose stylish clothing/ has awareness of current fashion trends
  • Organized and able to multitask
  • Ability to deliver results in a set timeline
  • Strong writing skills

Working Hours:

  • Commitment of minimum 10 hours a week required, for a period of at least one month.

2. Retail Internship

Job Overview: The Retail intern will be essential to running our retail shop. They will be customer facing and will ensure the Palm Jumeriah shop is able to offer excellent service and products. They will also work at the Back of House to help run operations and support supply to the shop.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist and sell items to our customers from our store on the Palm
  • Accept cash and other payments
  • Maintain a tidy store floor
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Restock shelves and rails
  • Ensure items are priced correctly
  • Arrange window displays and merchandise products
  • Place products on hold and coordinate online collections
  • Ensure donations received are stored properly
  • Sort donations by category - what can be sold, donated on, or upcycled
  • Price items according to TFG pricing structure
  • Steam and quality check clothing to ensure they are store worthy
  • Manage inventory so that the storefront always has stock available
  • Keep back of house clean and tidy
  • Mend or strain treat items that are in need of some TLC

3. MARKETING

Marketing Executive Internship

Job Overview: The Marketing Executive intern will be essential in communicating what Thrift for Good does to the public while following Thrift for Good social media and branding guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support marketing campaign planning and execution (social media, events and more)
  • Write copy for social media posts, promotional emails, blog articles, press releases and other marketing collateral
  • Assist in the creation of written, video, and image content for marketing channels
  • Participate in marketing brainstorming sessions
  • Assist in the management of website content and structure
  • Engage with influencers whebn required
  • Follow the social media and communication policies
  • Contribute your creative ideas to growing TFG

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Applied understanding of basic marketing principles
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok, etc.)
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Comfortable with multitasking 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of SEO techniques and best practices
  • Basic photography, image and video editing, and graphic design skills
  • Previous experience with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) and social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) a plus

Photographer/Videographer Internship

Job Overview: The Photographer/Videographer intern will be essential in preparing visual imagery to be used to promote and positively reflect Thrift for Good’s work to partners and the general public.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Producing photo/video content for different marketing mediums/platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok)
  • Setup and capture great shots to fulfill the brief. Capture studio-quality video and photographs
  • Collaborate with marketing teammates to support our marketing campaigns and marketing content for blog, social media and more through video or photography

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Experienced in using necessary editing tools for photography and videography
  • Ideally majoring in Film or Videography or Photography in University

Journalism Internship

Job Overview:

The Journalism intern will be essential in creating written content for our website blog and other communication channels. They will work closely with the Marketing team

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Complete interviews with volunteers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Write blog and other articles related to Thrift for Good
  • Assist in dealing with media contacts when required to do so
  • Plan, organize, edit and review materials for publication
  • Pitch ideas for content

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to write in more than one language a plus

4. Sustainability Specialist Internship

Job Overview:

The Sustainability intern will be focused on sustainability efforts and partnerships.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Engage with sustainable brands to establish and maintain partnerships
  • Organize and participate in Thrift for Good sustainable activities
  • Ensure TFG sustainable ethos is carried through the company
  • Come up with and lead new sustainable initiatives
  • Support TFG recycled paper production
  • Support TFG upcycled bags production
  • Assist in maintaining upcycling partnerships
  • Aid in sustainability training initiatives
  • Contribute to calculating and tracking carbon emissions
  • Support Prepare Sustainability report

Qualifications:

  • Be passionate about the environment
  • Knowledge of sustainable activities and practises
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to network and develop relationships

5. Events Internship

Job Overview: The Events intern will be focused on helping to plan the monthly Thrift for Good Palm Pop up events organized at the Palm Jumeirah store location. They will also be responsible for preparing for and/or attending bimonthly market events at various locations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in organizing monthly Pop-Up or other Thrift for Good led events
  • Manage communications with vendors and event partners
  • Coordinate with Marketing team any requirements for events
  • Prepare retail items for transportation to events
  • Pre and Post-event set up and take down
  • Pop-Up and Flea market set-up and selling
  • Track vendor needs and requests, ensure support is provided
  • Assist in shortlisting and selecting vendors for Pop up
  • Maintain organized stands at events
  • Assist with planning layout for Pop up event
  • Assist with attaining appropriate permissions

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Events or selling experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Friendly and well mannered
  • Physically capable with ability to carry and transport goods

 Working Hours:

Weekend work is required for Pop Up and Market events. Weekday work and work from home is available for event planning and meetings. Commitment of minimum 10 hours a week required, for a period of at least one month
